Borussia Dortmund Close In on Konstantinos Karetsas After Agreement With Genk

Borussia Dortmund are closing in on the signing of highly rated Greek teenager Konstantinos Karetsas as the Bundesliga club continue to reshape their squad ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Dortmund have made significant progress in negotiations with Belgian side KRC Genk, with the 18-year-old attacking midfielder also favouring a move to Germany.

The deal is expected to make Karetsas one of Dortmund's most important additions of the summer.

Dortmund Identify Karetsas as Key Creative Addition

Following Julian Brandt's departure, Dortmund have been looking for a player capable of adding creativity and technical quality in attacking midfield.

Karetsas fits that profile.

Despite being only 18, the Greek international has already established himself at senior level in Belgium and has attracted attention for his close control, dribbling, creativity and ability to operate between midfield and attack.

He recorded three goals and 11 assists in 28 Belgian league appearances last season, underlining his ability to create chances as well as score.

Karetsas has also made rapid progress at international level.

Since making his competitive senior debut for Greece in March 2025, he has earned 10 international appearances and contributed three goals and one assist.

His performances for both club and country have strengthened Dortmund's belief that he can contribute immediately rather than simply being developed as a long-term prospect.

Deal Moves Towards Completion

Dortmund and Genk have held extensive negotiations over the transfer, with reports indicating that the two sides have moved much closer to an agreement.

The player has also been strongly linked with a contract running until 2031.
