La Liga September 5 Preview: Real Betis vs Real Madrid & Athletic Club vs Atletico Madrid | Predictions and Score Tips
La Liga Matchday 4 brings two exciting fixtures for Indian football fans on September 5, with Real Madrid travelling to face Real Betis before Atletico Madrid take on Athletic Club at San Mames.
Both Madrid giants have started the new season strongly, but neither can expect an easy away trip.
Real Betis vs Real Madrid
Kick-off: September 5, 12:30 AM IST
Real Madrid head to Seville looking to maintain their perfect start to the 2026/27 La Liga campaign.
Jose Mourinho's side have won all three league matches so far, collecting nine points while scoring 10 goals and conceding only two. Real Betis, meanwhile, sit on six points after two wins and one defeat.
Madrid were particularly impressive in their previous match, recording a dominant 4-0 victory over newly-promoted Malaga. Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbappe and Arda Guler were all among the goals, highlighting the attacking options available to Mourinho.
Betis had started the season with back-to-back 1-0 victories against Real Sociedad and Valencia, but their defensive weaknesses were exposed in a 5-2 defeat to Levante last weekend.
However, this is unlikely to be a straightforward game for Los Blancos. Real Madrid have failed to win on their recent league visits to Betis, and the hosts have proved capable of frustrating them on home soil. Recent Spanish coverage notes that Madrid have not won away to Betis for five seasons.
The visitors also have a few fitness concerns. Aurelien Tchouameni is among the players whose condition has been monitored ahead of the match.
Madrid should still have the greater attacking quality. If Mbappe and Bellingham can exploit the spaces that caused Betis problems against Levante, the visitors will have a strong chance of extending their winning run.
Match Prediction: Real Madrid to win
Goals Outlook: Over 2.5 goals
Score Tips: 1-2 or 1-3

Athletic Club vs Atletico Madrid
Kick-off: September 5, 7:45 PM IST
The second fixture could be much tighter as Atletico Madrid travel to San Mames to face Athletic Club.
Atletico have collected seven points from their opening three matches, with two wins and one draw. Diego Simeone's team have scored seven goals while conceding three.
Athletic Club have three points after one win and two defeats, scoring three and conceding five.
Atletico's start has been encouraging. They opened with a 2-0 victory over Malaga, drew 2-2 with Villarreal and then produced an impressive 3-1 away win against Sevilla.
Their squad also underwent significant changes during the summer, with Morten Hjulmand, Alejandro Grimaldo, Kang-in Lee, Cristian Romero and Jonathan David among the new arrivals. This gives Simeone several different tactical options going forward.
However, San Mames remains one of the more difficult away venues in Spanish football.
Athletic are expected to press aggressively and try to disrupt Atletico's build-up play. Simeone has specifically worked on ways to escape that pressure in training, including using more direct passes and attacking the space behind Athletic's defensive line.
Injuries could also play a role. Athletic are expected to be without Dani Vivian and Beñat Prados among several unavailable players, while Atletico have injury concerns involving Alexander Sørloth.
Atletico enter the game in better form, but Athletic's home advantage makes a comfortable away victory unlikely.
Match Prediction: Atletico Madrid to win or draw
Goals Outlook: 2–3 goals
Score Tips: 1-1 or 1-2
