Bundesliga September 5 Preview: Hoffenheim vs Dortmund, Werder Bremen vs RB Leipzig | Predictions and Score Tips

The second matchday of the 2026/27 Bundesliga season brings two interesting fixtures on September 5, with Borussia Dortmund travelling to face Hoffenheim while RB Leipzig take on Werder Bremen at the Weserstadion.

Both Dortmund and Leipzig made winning starts to the new campaign, while Hoffenheim and Bremen will be looking for their first points of the season.

Hoffenheim vs Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund started their Bundesliga campaign in impressive fashion with a 2-0 home victory over Hamburg.

Serhou Guirassy opened the scoring before new signing Giannis Konstantelias doubled the advantage just before half-time. However, Dortmund suffered a major setback when Konstantelias sustained an ACL injury and was later ruled out for several months.

Dortmund still have plenty of attacking quality. Guirassy remains the main threat up front, while Konstantinos Karetsas impressed on his Bundesliga debut and was involved in the opening goal against Hamburg.

Hoffenheim, meanwhile, began their season with a 3-2 defeat away to Cologne. Despite the result, they should not be underestimated. Christian Ilzer's side finished fifth in the Bundesliga last season, missing out on the Champions League places by only one point.

Home advantage could make this a difficult contest for Dortmund, but Niko Kovač's side appear to have the stronger squad and more options in attack.

Prediction: Hoffenheim 1-2 Borussia Dortmund

Match Tip: Borussia Dortmund to win

Werder Bremen vs RB Leipzig

RB Leipzig made one of the strongest starts of Matchday 1, beating Borussia Mönchengladbach 3-0.

Ridle Baku opened the scoring before Antonio Nusa produced a superb second-half goal. Leipzig later added a third, while returning attacker Christopher Nkunku registered an assist in his first Bundesliga appearance since rejoining the club.

It was also an ideal Bundesliga debut for new head coach Martín Demichelis, with Leipzig looking organised defensively and dangerous on the counter-attack.

Werder Bremen had a much more difficult opening weekend, losing 4-1 away to Freiburg. The result continued concerns surrounding a side that finished only 15th last season.

The return of experienced striker Niclas Füllkrug gives Bremen an important option in attack, but their defence will need to improve significantly against Leipzig's pace and movement.

With Nusa, Nkunku and the rest of Leipzig's attacking options already showing encouraging signs, the visitors should enter this contest as favourites.

Prediction: Werder Bremen 1-3 RB Leipzig

Match Tip: RB Leipzig to win
