Bundesliga September 18-19 Preview: Bayern vs Union Berlin & Frankfurt vs Freiburg | Predictions

Bundesliga Matchday 4 brings two interesting fixtures for Indian football fans, with Bayern Munich hosting Union Berlin at the Allianz Arena before Eintracht Frankfurt take on Freiburg at Deutsche Bank Park.

Bayern remain the headline attraction as the defending champions look to stay on track in the title race, while Frankfurt vs Freiburg promises to be a more evenly matched contest.

Bayern Munich vs Union Berlin

Bayern Munich will enter this match as clear favourites, especially with home advantage at the Allianz Arena.

Vincent Kompany's side have four points from their opening two Bundesliga matches, scoring five goals and conceding only once. However, their previous league outing ended in a surprising goalless draw against Schalke, showing that even Bayern can be frustrated by a well-organised defensive setup.

Harry Kane remains Bayern's main goal threat, while Michael Olise and Luis Díaz provide pace and creativity from wide areas. Against Union, Bayern are expected to dominate possession and spend long periods in the opposition half.

Union Berlin have had a much tougher start. After three matches, they have collected only one point while conceding 10 goals.

The visitors are trying to become more proactive under new head coach Mauro Lustrinelli, but leaving space behind the defensive line against Bayern could be dangerous.

If Bayern score early, the match could quickly become one-sided.

Prediction: Bayern Munich 3-0 Union Berlin

Match Tip: Bayern Munich to win

Eintracht Frankfurt vs Freiburg

The second match should be considerably more competitive.

Frankfurt finished eighth last season and have brought back Adi Hütter for a second spell as head coach. The Austrian is looking to restore a more aggressive attacking style at Deutsche Bank Park after a disappointing 2025/26 campaign.

Jonathan Burkardt remains an important figure in attack after scoring a team-high 13 Bundesliga goals last season, while Nigerian midfielder Raphael Onyedika has been added to strengthen the midfield.

Freiburg, meanwhile, enjoyed an excellent 2025/26 season. They reached the UEFA Europa League final and finished seventh in the Bundesliga, earning another season of European football.

Julian Schuster's side have also started the new Bundesliga campaign strongly, winning their opening two matches with five goals scored and only one conceded.

Matthias Ginter remains a key defensive leader, while Vincenzo Grifo can still create problems through set-pieces and his ability in the final third.

Frankfurt's home advantage makes this difficult to call, but Freiburg's early-season form suggests they have every chance of taking something from the match.

Prediction: Eintracht Frankfurt 1-1 Freiburg

Match Tip: Freiburg to avoid defeat

Final Verdict

Bayern are the strongest pick of the two matches and should have enough attacking quality to beat Union Berlin at home. Frankfurt vs Freiburg looks much tighter, with Freiburg's strong start making them difficult to oppose.
