Bayer Leverkusen Sign Miguel Gutiérrez as Grimaldo Replacement Until 2031

Bayer Leverkusen have strengthened their squad ahead of the 2026/27 Bundesliga season by completing the signing of Spanish left-back Miguel Gutiérrez from Napoli.

The Spain international has signed a five-year contract until the summer of 2031 and is expected to fill the gap left by Alejandro Grimaldo, who moved to Atlético Madrid earlier this summer.

Leverkusen Find Their New Left-Back

Gutiérrez made 36 appearances across all competitions for Napoli last season, including 28 matches in Serie A.

Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes described the Spaniard as a technically gifted and attack-minded defender whose playing style fits perfectly with the club's plans.

Primarily a left-back, Gutiérrez is also comfortable operating further forward, giving Leverkusen additional flexibility on the left flank.

From Real Madrid to Girona and Napoli

Gutiérrez came through Real Madrid's academy and made 10 senior appearances for the Spanish giants.

He later established himself at Girona, where he made 112 appearances before joining Napoli in the summer of 2025.

His experience in both La Liga and Serie A should help him adapt quickly to the demands of German football.

Gutiérrez Ready for Bundesliga Challenge

Speaking after completing the move, Gutiérrez highlighted Leverkusen's strong reputation in both Spain and Italy and said he was looking forward to experiencing the atmosphere inside Bundesliga stadiums.

The Spanish defender also made it clear that competing for trophies remains one of his main ambitions.

Gutiérrez joins a Leverkusen squad undergoing significant changes ahead of the new campaign. With Grimaldo departing after three successful seasons, the 25-year-old will now have the opportunity to establish himself as a key figure on the left side of the team.

For Leverkusen, his arrival represents an important piece of their rebuild as they prepare for the 2026/27 Bundesliga season.
