Augsburg have made a strong start, taking seven points from their opening three Bundesliga matches, with nine goals scored and only three conceded. They currently sit third, one place above Bayern on goal difference.

Their improvement is not entirely new. Under Manuel Baum, Augsburg climbed from 14th to ninth last season, and only Bayern, Dortmund, Leipzig and Stuttgart collected more points during the second half of the 2025/26 Bundesliga campaign.

Michael Gregoritsch gives Augsburg a physical presence up front, while Fabian Rieder and Finn Dahmen are important parts of the team's spine.

Bayern, however, remain the defending Bundesliga champions. Vincent Kompany's team won the league and DFB Cup double last season, scoring a Bundesliga-record 122 goals on their way to 89 points.
